 Dreamville

Dreams

scored by Chopin in the background and

Weaving themselves into the corners of

Every waking thought I sink my teeth into

Cloud 9 caught you when you

Fell from the sky into

My world that only sings for strangers

When a rose rests its eyes

Like Lauryn on a Sunday,

Or Nina after dark,

Inhale, exhale, and I’m feeling good

Grace notes sung

leagues beneath my feet

Yet I can feel them in my fingertips

Like crying tears in the rain

Or pointing fingers at a shadow

Diluted peoples call my name

My tired eyes know your stories

Like the back of my hand

Word-smithed to perfection

Intricacies in every strike of the pen

Where will you take me next?

These antiquated runs in the fabric of history,

Just complicate everything…

Painting time with moonlit sonatas,

Washing my tongue of all sense and sensibility

A familiarity

I’ve been here before

It’s like I’m running through someone else’s mind

And trying on these memories that don’t quite fit

Sifting through clouded waters to grip the answers that

slip through my fingers before I can say ‘yes’

Yesterday’s color sounds exactly like today’s

And tomorrow the same

I feel like I’m dreaming and I’m about to wake up

Can we stay a little longer?
